Ceramic Guide Pin Manufacturer

Ceramic Guide Pins from UNIPRETEC are fabricated of hard technical ceramics: yttria stabilized zirconia (ZrO2/Zirconium Oxide) or gas pressure sintered silicon nitride(Si3N4). Ceramic locating pins offer a much longer working life without the possibility of electrical conductivity than metal pins. It is well known that if uninsulated positioning pins are used during welding, unnecessary electric current will flow through, causing sparks between the pins and the workpiece, causing pin wear and positioning problem, and reducing the quality of the workpiece and the qualification rate. And because of sparks, the workpiece often needs an additional through-hole process, the insulated ceramic pin does not have such a problem. Without any chance of localized degradation and coating compromise, the exceptionally hard ceramic materials resist wear and spatter. For most uses, welding locating pins made of ceramics are well adapted and, if used correctly, will outlast conventional steel pins by factors of 50 or more. All ceramic positioning pins are machined to required specification by diamond wheels due to their high hardness and manufacturing process for the ceramic. This increases the delivery time and expense of the lead for each pin.

However, ceramic centering pins for welding can not suit all designs, in order to match your working conditions, there are hybrid solutions (solid ceramic + metal) may be choices. In certain applications that need a thread for positioning, hybrid pins are often used. Since grinding a hard ceramic is inefficient and costs high, a steel part with a machined thread is attached to the wear-resistant solid ceramic part.
