Silicon Nitride Ceramic Cylinder
Density : 3.20 g/cm3
Hardness : Mohs 9
Max. Service Temp. : 1,200 ℃

Silicon nitride was selected over a variety of other technical advanced ceramics because to its high strength and hardness, low porosity, high fracture toughness, and ability to resist high Hertzian stresses during rolling contact fatigue with spall failures comparable to steel. A comparison of the material characteristics of a metal cam roller assembly (bearing steel and bronze) to Si3N4 ceramics indicates that silicon nitride ceramic cylinder for bearings do provide quicker accelerations owing to its density. Si3N4 ceramic is considerably tougher than steel, has a lower thermal expansion coefficient, and acts as an electrical insulator. Additionally, silicon nitride cylindrical roller for bearings has a low coefficient of friction when sliding against steel, as opposed to steel/steel or steel/bronze, and does not show microwelding when in contact with steel (a common cause of galling and scuffing in metal component lubricated wear). Additionally, Si3N4 ceramic cylinder for bearings is considerably less susceptible to unlubricated operation. The friction coefficient of silicon nitride rollers remains constant in dry/flooded circumstances (ball on flat tribometer contact).
