The characteristic of the alumina ceramic insulator is that the positive and negative charges in the molecule are tightly bound, there are very few charged particles that can move freely, and its resistivity is very large, so in general, the macroscopic effect of free charge movement under the action of an external electric field can be ignored. This is why alumina ceramic is considered a non-electrically-conductive substance. The insulation strength of alumina ceramics is much higher than that of other oxide ceramics. However, the insulation strength of aluminum oxide ceramic also has a certain relationship with its Al2O3 purity. The content of Al2O3 is different, and the strength of the insulation is also different. However, compared with common insulating materials, the cost of aluminum oxide insulator is also quite high, and the purity is different, and the cost is also different. Therefore, how much content should be used depends on where it is used.
High alumina insulators are densely sintered in a high temperature environment of 1,500-1,650 degrees Celsius, without pores, and high compactness. Aluminum oxide ceramic insulator is suitable for environments that have strict requirements on vacuum compactness, such as microwave devices and vacuum switch tubes. Moreover, Al2O3 insulator can be packaged with other metal parts through a metallization process, and its own good mechanical strength is also an advantage. After the alumina ceramic is glazed, its vacuum withstand voltage and insulation performance can also be improved. In addition to excellent electrical insulation properties, high temperature resistant and good thermal conductivity, alumina electrical insulators also have excellent chemical stability, resistance to erosion by various chemical reagents, and can withstand erosion by a variety of acidic and alkaline reagents, thus ensuring that ceramic insulators made of alumina can stably and long-term play a role.
