Products
Alumina Plate
Alumina plate can refer to different specific products or variants depending on the manufacturer and application. Therefore, when looking for alumina plates for a particular purpose, it's essential to specify the required properties, dimensions, and other relevant details to ensure you get the right product for your needs.
Key properties of alumina plates
High Temperature Resistance
Alumina plates can withstand extremely high temperatures, making them suitable for applications in furnace and kiln linings, as well as in the aerospace and automotive industries.
Mechanical Strength
Alumina is a hard and strong material, providing good mechanical stability and wear resistance. This makes alumina plates suitable for use in high-wear environments.
Electrical Insulation
Alumina is an electrical insulator, which means it does not conduct electricity. This property makes alumina plates useful for electrical insulators, semiconductor components, and high-voltage applications.
Chemical Resistance
Alumina has good chemical resistance against most acids and alkalis, making it suitable for use in corrosive environments.
Biocompatibility
Alumina is biocompatible, which means it can be used in medical applications, such as orthopedic implants.
Applications of Alumina plates
Electronics
Alumina plates are used as substrates for electronic components such as integrated circuits (ICs), semiconductor packages, and thick-film circuit substrates.
Heat Sinks
The excellent thermal conductivity of alumina makes it suitable for heat sink applications in electronic devices and high-power LED assemblies.
Foundry and Metallurgy
Alumina plates are utilized in foundry applications as casting plates, setter plates, and crucibles due to their high-temperature resistance and non-reactivity with metals.
Medical and Dental
Alumina plates are used in medical implants, such as hip joints and dental implants, owing to their biocompatibility and mechanical strength.
Cutting Tools
Alumina is used to manufacture cutting tools, grinding wheels, and wear-resistant components for machining and manufacturing industries.
Insulators
Alumina plates serve as electrical insulators in various high-voltage and high-temperature applications, such as power distribution systems and heating elements.
Laboratory and Research
Alumina plates are employed in laboratories for holding and processing samples in high-temperature environments.
Manufacturing methods
1. Dry Pressing
This method involves compacting dry alumina powders into a plate shape using a hydraulic press. The resulting plate is then sintered at high temperatures to achieve the desired density and strength.
2. Isostatic Pressing
In this process, a rubber or elastomeric mold is filled with alumina powder, and then it is subjected to high pressure from all directions using an isostatic press. This leads to uniform density and improved mechanical properties.
3. Slip Casting
In slip casting, a liquid mixture of alumina and a solvent is poured into a mold. The solvent is later removed, leaving a solid green body, which is then sintered to form the final alumina plate.
To maximize the advantages and mitigate the limitations, the team of UNIPRETEC has experience of considering the specific requirements of their applications and choose the appropriate alumina plate grade and manufacturing method.
