Product Introduction

What Are Disposable Ceramic Press Plungers

Disposable ceramic press plungers are designed to work with any type of pressable ceramic system. They are suitable for the creation of dental restorations. The plunger is made from a partially sintered ceramic material, typically 95 alumina, with fully dense 99 alumina also available. The mold can be purchased from a manufacturer of molds, or it can be simply fabricated using an alumina or similar plunger as a model. Disposable ceramic press plungers do not require time-consuming cleaning and grinding. Cracking issues that might arise with traditional plungers are reduced, if not entirely removed.

Materials for Disposable Ceramic Press Plunger

Disposable press plungers can be made from a refractory material similar to that of the investment used to produce a pressable mould. This provides a uniform cooling rate between the mould, the ceramic, and the plunger, avoiding the thermal shock that can occur with ALOX plungers, and this thermal shock might cause cracks in pressed restorations. Disposable press plungers are frequently offered in diameters of 12mm, 13mm, and 16mm. They can be protected from damage by being wrapped in durable packaging. Additionally, they are simple to cut to accommodate additional ingots for pressing. Their packaging is shown below:

Comparison of Alox Plunger and Disposable Press Plunger

Alox plungers are a common source of annoyance for many labs since they can lead to contamination and surface issues, as well as cause mis-press, cracking, and increased reaction layer. In order to eliminate residue and maintain proper form, they also need cleaning and close monitoring. In addition, they require preheating for some processes.

The unique material composition of disposable press plungers help prevent stress fractures in the transition region between the ingot and the press plunger; otherwise, the stress would be transmitted through the ingot, the sprue, and the workpiece. As opposed to Alox plungers, disposable press plungers do not adhere to the pressed unit due to the pressed residue and are not deformed by repeated sandblasting, which can lead to cracking.

Different diameters and lengths are needed for a wide range of pressable materials and systems. Disposable press plungers can offer ideal solutions for achieving optimal pressing effects while avoiding the issues that can arise when using Alox plungers. They are available in multiple diameters, with 12mm for traditional press ceramics, 13mm for lithium disilicate and lithium silicates, and 16mm for large 5g ingot sizes. Additionally, there are various lengths for multiple processes. Here shows one drawing of the disposable press plunger as an example:

Furthermore, disposable ceramic press plungers are easier to use, can speed up workflow, and are more cost-effective because they eliminate the time-consuming tasks of cleaning reusable plungers. In addition to being significantly more effective than conventional ALOX plungers, disposable plungers are also more efficient.

Advantages of Disposable Ceramic Press Plunger

- Better heat transfer during press cycles;

- Faster heat dissipation while cooling;

- No separator needed when pressing lithium disilicate;

- No need for preheating;

- Simple to use;

- Simply discard after use;

- No need to clean pressed residue;

- Eliminate failure due to deformation or contamination from repeated usage.
